The threat of mice is always present when you live in the country side or next to crop fields, but even more so during the winter months as they seek refuge from the cold.

With the onset of the winter months, you will need to make your home less likely to be invaded by unwanted animals, mainly mice. If you live by fields that have either corn or soybeans or even wheat, you probably already have some problems with these little creatures, but when it starts getting colder, you will see a lot more of them. When the weather gets cold, these animals will try to find any place that they think they can stay warmer at.

If you keep a lot of paper around or in your drawers, these are their favorite places to settle in at. They will shred this paper to build their nest, and they will even bore their young into this paper. Another thing that they love to get into are old smelly clothes that you have in your drawers that you probably don't wear anymore. If you have either of these things that I mentioned, you might want to go and throw away as much of that paper as you can and take out all of these old clothes and get rid of them both.

You will want to seal up all of the holes that you can find - even ones that look like there would be no way for anything to be able to get through. Some baby mice are so small that they will be able to fit through holes that are really small. There are many different kinds of unwanted animals that will try to get into your home in the winter to stay warm, but they aren't as hard to get rid of as mice.

There are several kinds of traps to help you in getting rid of the little pests and some of them work very well but these can also be harmful to your household pets, especially cats. If a sick mouse is seen and eaten by your cat, your cat can also die. If you have little children around, they will try to maybe catch this sick animal that would subject them to all kinds of germs from the mouse itself to them putting their hands in their mouths like little kids are known to do.

In cases like this, you will want to have the old-fashioned mouse traps that you can put in higher places that your pet or your little kids can get their hands or teeth into. In some cases where this problem is really bad, I have heard of some people using pails of hot water and finding these animals to crawl into it and die.
